The Metropolitan Board of the
Chicago Urban League recently
celebrated its 25th anniversary. It all
took place the weekend of April 11th-
13th. It all Victor Hotel with the “Take
Over begun on Friday April 11th, at the
Friday: Kickoff Networking” event,
which was a free networking event for
young professionals. This was
followed up on Saturday April 12th, by
the “Silver Soul Session, which was a
benefit concert which took place at the
Park West. The night began with a VIP
Reception, which included a buffet, as
well as drinks, compliments of
Bombay Sapphire. It was hosted by
entertainment, nightlife and travel columnist for the Chicago Defender, Art “Chat Daddy”
Sims, and also featured music by DJ Frances Jaye of
www.neosoulcafe.com.  
Ambrosius (of Floetry), Corey Wilkes and Black Slang. Marsha Ambrosius however
couldn’t make it due to a family emergency. The show concluded with an electrifying
surprise performance by Grammy nominated rapper KRS-One.  After the show ended,
all guests in attendance received gift bags. Sunday April 13th saw the end of an eventful
weekend, when the Metropolitan Board held its Presidents’ Awards Brunch at the Art
Institute of Chicago. It honored James W. Compton and John W. Rogers Jr., and it was
hosted by Christian Farr and Karen Jordan. Since its inception back in 1983, the
Metropolitan Board of the Chicago Urban League has continued to serve as a powerful
force in developing young African American professionals into some of our future
